WE WILL BE STARTING BACK UP IN SPRING 2022!

The Youth Songwriters Collective is a fun, supportive, and creative virtual space for songwriters ages 13-18 to share their music, learn new skills, develop a consistent writing process, and cultivate their artistic voices in a creative and collaborative community. Songwriting is a vehicle for connection, whether it is connecting to an idea, a moment in time, a feeling, ourselves, other people, or the world around us.

This 9-week program led by Joanna Schubert has included song shares, collaborations, and workshops. Song shares invite members to bring in what they want feedback on - from a seed idea to a completed song, as well as give feedback on others’ material. In collaboration sessions, members have the opportunity to co-write in duos or trios with other members of the collective, as well as play and sing on each other’s existing songs. Eclectic solo writing and collaboration prompts will broaden your style, ability, and imagination. Workshops cover a variety of skills/topics (see below for past offerings) and bring in inspiring guests from various musical genres and perspectives. The program also includes a final share where everyone will present live and recorded solo songs and collaborations to friends, family, and fans!

“This collective inspired me so much. It really helped me push myself to sit down and write music every week. It is such a welcoming group, and I always look forward to coming to the meetings.” - Phoebe, 16

“Everyone in the collective is so nice and lovely. It is truly a space where you can feel comfortable sharing songs that you don’t even necessarily think are that good and not be worried about what people think. The feedback you get is specific and helpful, but never too harsh. It is a really awesome thing to be a part of!” - Judy, 16
